How does a couple go from living on a boat in the Florida Keys to living in Phoenix, Arizona?
Well, Phoenix is next to family; not far from the Grand Canyon; is four hours from the beaches of Puerto Penasco, Mexico; and it’s a hop and skip to the Pacific. The Pacific as in San Diego, where every year cruisers gather in October and sail to Cabo San Lucas; fondly known as the Baja Ha-Ha.
In 2012 my husband and I were “done” with working long hours, making stressful commutes, and missing one another’s company. On the verge of losing our youth and abilities, we stumbled across s/v Bobby McGee, a Freedom ’36 Cat Ketch. It was she that helped us commit to a plan to become part of the Baja Ha Ha XX, then cruise the Sea of Cortez for a few months. She wasn’t what we were looking for but she turned out to be exactly what we needed. She is our key to adventure.
While I celebrate what is ahead, I also cherish what drew me to living on a boat in the first place…
Wow I really relate to your story Beth. I was a girl from Ohio. Mom said that it was because I was my father’s daughter. He loved the sea as well. Bon Voyage! May your sails and your glass be full!
Boy am I glad you are your father’s daughter! We have been enjoying a lifetime of great memories in the Florida Keys, huh? Remember your little place on the dock,
when I first met you? The best part, is that we still have so much ahead. See you just over the next wave, my friend.
